Official Website : Trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist, composer and improviser, Wadada Leo Smith has been active in creative contemporary music for over forty years. His systemic music language Ankhrasmation is significant in his development as an artist and educator.
@allmusic : A consistently adventurous trumpeter who has stuck to playing avant-garde jazz throughout his career, Leo Smith’s dry, introverted style (which makes extensive use of space) is a strong contrast to the more jubilant flights of Lester Bowie.
@last.fm : He played again with Anthony Braxton as well as recording with Derek Bailey’s Company. In the mid-eighties, Smith became Rastafarian and began using the name Wadada. In 1993, he began teaching at Cal Arts, a position he currently holds.
