Solid! : Though Red Norvo was one of the most important figures in the development of jazz during the 1920s he is strangely enough one of the least celebrated. Norvo stayed on the cutting edge throughout his career.
@npr : Composer and historian Gunther Schuller notes the revolutionary nature of Norvo’s Dance of the Octopus, recorded independently when Norvo sneaked into the studio one night.
@last.fm : When the original guitarist and bassist quit (Mundell Lowe and Red Kelly), he brought in two previously little-known players. Tal Farlow became one of the most important of the post-War generation of guitarists, in part because the demands of the trio led him to explore new levels of both speed and harmonic richness on the instrument.
