These are typical Ellington/Strayhorn arrangements and a long way from easy-listening big-band Bossa Nova but there’s nothing here quite as convincing as a Far East Suite either. That the album finishes with two older pieces and one or two others fade prematurely suggests not everything was thoroughly prepared…..but what’s new? […]
