But the great track of the album, ‘Round Midnight (in an arrangement that takes out the rhythmic complexeties of Monk’s theme and replaces them with layers of harmonic subtlety – in a way I doubt Monk would have approved of) calls out for a musician like Miles Davis, Adderley not having the strength to carry it, leaving it with a certain hole at the centre.
