Wikipedia : This day (October 19, 1995), in Malaga, Spain, died Donald Eugene Cherry a.k.a. Don Cherry, an American jazz cornetist .
@ Eagle Eyed Cherry website : Not only did he take part in the development of the free jazz idiom, but he was one of the first jazz musicians to seriously embrace other cultures, and develop a musical kind of multi-culturalism long before it became fashionable.
@last.fm : After leaving Coleman and playing with John Coltrane on The Avant-Garde (1961), he signed a deal with Blue Note records to release three albums. The first and most famous of these recordings, Complete Communion (1965), proved Cherry’s worth and originality as a composer by developing several different themes within each twenty minute piece and blurring the distinction between composition and improvisation.
@Discogs : Father of Eagle-Eye Cherry and stepfather of Neneh Cherry.
